Huckleberry Finn - Day 2/Abolitionism Contd.

Today you will continue work with your group. Please keep track of your writing each day in a Google Drive document – one shared by members of your group and me. We recommend rotating this job around!
Based on the list below, your group needs to compile a set of notes that includes at least one quotation and a comment for each bullet point.

Characters:
  • Huck
  • Tom
  • Pap
  • Jim
  • Other adult
Beliefs / attitudes:
  • Laws
  • Superstitions
  • Slaves
  • Individuality
  • Religion
Themes:
  • The natural world
  • Friends
  • Family
  • Morality
--------------
For the second part of class, we'll continue our look at the "low down abolitionists", working to get a sense of their arguments and advocated actions.
Each member of your group will be assigned one document to read that was written by someone considered to be an abolitionist. You should annotate your American Reader as you read and then fill in the corresponding row in the chart (your chart is already in your American Studies Hist/Lit folder). When each member of your group is finished, each person should describe their document to the rest of the group. You should not merely share the chart and cut and paste the information but instead, take notes in your own chart as people describe their documents and analyses. You should be sure and discuss them as you work. After everyone has presented, discuss and respond in writing to the three synthesis questions at the bottom of the chart.
