First, you'll have to go to your Google Drive and select NEW, then MORE, then Lucidchart Diagrams.
After Mr. Rigler demonstrates how to use the Lucidcharts, you'll begin your own with two assertions:
- What does Richard Wright want the reader to think/feel about Bigger?
- By the end of the novel, what do you think/feel about Bigger?
In order to support your answers to these questions (which should not be a one word answer), you should begin by looking back at the responses and activities that we've used to explore the novel. These include (items in gray are links):
- How Bigger Was Born
- Questions for Book 3 of Native Son
- Link to Aggravating / Mitigating chart from book 2
- Native Son Book Two Writing
- Native Son group work chart
- Your Book One Journal Entry
- Your Book Two Journal Entry
- Your Book Three Journal Entry
Once you've got a sense of the assertions that you'll make, begin to gather your evidence to support them . Your chart ultimately must include:
- At least one piece of evidence from Book One
- At least one piece of evidence from Book Two
- At least one piece of evidence from Book Three
- At least one piece of evidence from How Bigger Was Born
- At least two details from your responses to the Questions about Book Three
- In addition, your support for your second assertion, must include at least two pieces of evidence that don't also support your first.
After you've got your evidence plotted out in your chart, you'll do a brief final written response in a text box on the bottom of your chart which is similar to an annotation to a piece of evidence that you used. It should look like this.
- Richard Wright wants me to believe___________ and he uses this (evidence) because it shows__________.
- I end up believing that Bigger is______________ and this (evidence) is central to my conclusion because it shows____________.
