Debating the Spanish American War and Intro to Just War Theory

  • Today, we'll review the Imperialism Concepts slide shows that you created last week. In your notebooks, you'll take some time to reflect on what those might mean to your initial impressions of what America's role in the world should be.
  • Next, after setting the context of America at the Crossroads, we'll share and discuss the different policy options that you read for homework.
  • After hearing from each group, we'll return to our notebooks to consider, based on your initial impressions of America's role in the world, which option you would select and why.
  • Then we'll read the Epilogue to find out what happened. You should read actively and take notes as you read.
  • We'll then consider another lens by which to evaluate the United States' role in both the Spanish-American and Philippine-American Wars: Just War Theory.
  • Back in your groups, you'll work with two of the elements of JWT, following the instructions and putting your responses directly into this document: Age of Imperialism Final Analysis.
  • Your homework is to respond to the concluding questions. Submit your responses to turnitin.com before the start of class Wednesday.
